The First 10 Years of Ebay

Pierre Omiday created Ebay in September of 1995, by a man called Pierre Omidyar, who resides in San Jose. Auction Web is what Pierre called in the time period, he designed this auction website in one week. This was one of the very first auction sites which he called Ebay. Omidyar company name was Echo Bay. The first thing Omidyar sold was a laser pointer that sold for just $14.00.

This site became very popular among buyers to bid on products that sellers were trying to sell. Trust is what Ebay was built on, allowing the website to run by itself. Ebay relied on collecting a small fee for each product sold and this allowed Omidyar to expand the AuctionWeb presence on the web. This created enough income that Omidyar quit is full time job and worked on this auction website as a career. In 1996, Omidyar allowed buyers and sellers to rate each on whether they got the products that wanted, making sure the products were shipped on time, not damaged or defected and making sure the seller's didn't get ripped off.

In 1998, Ebay became a phenomenon and this allowed people from all walks of live to purchase shares on the stock market. Ebay became so well known that people didn't just sell collectibles but sold items that were large like a car to small like jewelry. After the dot boon, Ebay is still popular to this day. Other websites have popped up such as I-offer and Craig List but Ebay is considered as on the top 10 Internet Websites on the World Wide Web.

In 1999, Ebay expanded to such countries as the Australia, Germany and the UK. Half.com was purchased by E-Bay in 2000. Ebay also allows sellers to put Buy it Now buttons on the website to allow buyers to buy the item immediately at a fixed price rather than going through the bidding process that is called for in the auctions. Ebay also integrates Paypal into its system as a more safer way for buyers to purchase the items.

It is said that Pierre Omidyar has an earned income of $3 billion from eBay, and still resides as the chairman of the board. Pierre keeps a weblog of all his accomplishments on at http://pierre.typepad.com oddly enough. Million of items around the world are bought, and sold on the Ebay marketplace To sell a product on ebay, create an account, decide on the method of payment, post a picture or image of the product, verify everything is correct and submit. It is that simply.

Ebay has come along way as is still considered one of the most popular websites on the internet. So why don't you give it a try. Buy some items and sell some. I guarantee you will like Ebay and you will become a pro in a few times on Ebay.
